Eighth Sunday after Trinity

Those who would teach in Christ’s Church have a solemn duty to know and teach only that which Christ has taught. They are to diligently study the Scriptures and carefully speak so as not to lead anyone away from the divine truth. Failing to teach the Word of God rightly has eternal consequences. A similar duty is laid upon those who hear. Whoever is being taught is to know the chief articles of the faith so that they are not led away from Christ and therefore away from eternal life. All who hear are to also be diligent students of Holy Scripture so that they can rejoice in the truth and point out and flee from error. There is no such thing as “generic Christianity”. There is “one Lord, one faith, one Baptism, one God and Father of us all.” Christ warns us against false teachers because they are a direct threat to our faith. We are not to tolerate them. We are to point out false teaching especially for the sake of our neighbor so that they don’t believe it. And we are to gather ourselves to those who faithfully teach all that God has given to be taught because the truth is salvation. Please plan to join us this coming Lord’s Day.
