Second Sunday of Easter

“Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk of the Word.”  These are the opening words of the Introit for this Sunday – Quasi modi geniti.  Newborns love to eat – a lot.  And God has so marvelously ordered His creation that the child receiving the pure, nutrient-dense milk of her mother is a picture of us as Christians receiving the pure, life and truth-dense milk of God’s Word from our mother, the Holy Christian Church.  It is what we all need.  The Word nourish and sustains us.  It is the light of truth in the midst of darkness.  It is comfort in the midst of sorrow.  It is peace in the midst of anxiousness and fear.  The Word of God is life itself.  It is the only means by which God desires to deal with us and by the Word, the Holy Spirit creates and strengthens faith.  Children don’t tire of their mother’s milk and likewise God’s children should never tire of hearing what God the Lord speaks.  May God stir up in each of us a deep longing for the pure spiritual milk of the Word by which we are saved. I look forward to seeing all of you this Sunday.
