Seventeenth Sunday after Trinity

“The eyes of the Lord are toward the righteous, and His ears toward their cry.” (Palm 34:15) God does not pay attention to those who desperately seek to prove to Him how and good and healthy they are. They have their good and see no need for anything God can give them. They are not interested in His mercy or the life and healing that He alone can bring. Instead, their concern is to elevate themselves in the eyes of God and of others so that they are well thought of. But the eyes of God are toward those who humble themselves in full knowledge that they have nothing to exalt themselves about before either God or men. They seek only to be with God and to receive from Him healing, hope, life, and salvation. To such God says “Friend, move up higher. Take this place at my banquet which I have prepared for you through the death and resurrection of My beloved Son.” God grant us the fervent desire to sit at His table and receive His gifts. I look forward to seeing you this coming Lord’s Day.
